The Framed Agreement Ended Daniel’s Open Marriage Fantasy
The document granted me exclusive use of the house while the divorce proceeded. It also barred Daniel from bringing guests onto the property without my written permission.
Brianna read that section over his shoulder.
“You said this was still your home,” she whispered.
Daniel ignored her and demanded to know whether Evan was my boyfriend. I told him the truth: Evan was a colleague who had treated me with more respect over coffee than Daniel had shown me in months.
The photograph was not proof of an affair.
It was proof that my life had continued.
Then Denise arrived with the remaining papers. Daniel had been served electronically while travelling, but he had ignored every notice. His company expenses were under review, the marital accounts had been restricted, and the court had ordered him to preserve all financial records.
Brianna’s expression changed when she realised the luxury trip might become evidence of misused company and marital funds. She collected her suitcase and left before Daniel finished reading.
He accused me of destroying seventeen years over one mistake.
“It wasn’t one mistake,” I said. “It was a month-long celebration of a decision you made for both of us.”
Daniel had announced an open marriage because he believed only he would enjoy the freedom.
The framed document showed him the part he had overlooked:
I was free to close it.
