Carlton followed Dashawn to a weathered shed behind a small rental house, expecting a collection of broken lawnmowers and spare parts. Instead, he found notebooks filled with circuit diagrams, salvaged batteries, homemade sensors, and a crude prototype mounted to plywood. Dashawn explained that his mother depended on refrigerated medication, and frequent power outages had pushed him to design a cheap system that could monitor battery temperature and automatically isolate failing cells before they damaged the rest of a storage pack.
