Don’t Throw Away Laundry Detergent Caps Until You See These Clever Uses

Most of us finish a bottle of laundry detergent, toss the empty cap into the recycling bin, and never think about it again. But those sturdy little measuring cups can be surprisingly useful around the house. Instead of throwing them away, consider giving them a second life with one of these simple and practical ideas.

One of the easiest ways to reuse detergent caps is as measuring cups for non-food items like garden fertilizer, pet food, or ice melt. They also work well as small containers for organizing screws, nails, beads, buttons, or craft supplies. If you enjoy gardening, they can be used to scoop potting soil, hold seeds while planting, or even serve as tiny starter pots for seedlings after adding a few drainage holes.

Laundry caps are also handy for DIY projects. They make great paint containers for small jobs, can hold glue during crafts, or be used to mix small batches of cleaning solutions. Parents often reuse them for children’s art activities, while pet owners may use them as temporary scoops for dry food or treats.

You can even turn them into simple household tools. Attach one to a wall to hold small items, use them to sort loose hardware in the garage, or keep one in your car to store spare change or small emergency supplies. Their durable plastic makes them much more versatile than many people realize.

Before reusing any detergent cap, wash it thoroughly with warm, soapy water to remove any remaining detergent residue. Avoid using them for food or drinks, as they were designed to hold cleaning products, not food-safe materials.

With just a little creativity, those empty detergent caps can stay useful long after the bottle is gone. Reusing them is an easy way to reduce waste, save money, and find practical solutions for everyday tasks around the home.
