The Renovation Ended the Moment I Saw Everything
Megan finally said it plainly. She and Kevin had decided the beach house would be “better used” as a permanent home for her parents. The master bedroom was being enlarged, the kitchen modernized, and one guest room converted into an office. Kevin kept repeating that they were improving the property. I asked one question: “Who gave the contractor permission?” Neither of them answered.
I called the project manager immediately. He showed me an authorization form bearing Kevin’s signature and a note claiming he was acting for the owner. I informed him that I was the sole owner and had approved nothing. Work stopped within twenty minutes. My attorney arrived later that afternoon, photographed the damage, obtained copies of the contracts, and notified everyone involved that no further construction could occur without my written consent.
