What I Found in the Trash Changed Everything

The first thing I saw was cardboard. Lots of it. Flattened boxes with our name and address still attached. At first, I thought Hannah had simply been helping with recycling. Then I recognized packages I had reported missing over the previous two months. Beneath them were opened envelopes, product boxes, and several shipping labels carefully peeled away. My stomach dropped. These weren’t things I had thrown out.

Then I noticed a small notebook wedged beneath one of the boxes. Inside were dates, delivery times, and notes about when my husband and I usually left for work. Hannah’s name wasn’t written anywhere, but several entries matched days she had been babysitting. I photographed everything before touching anything else, then called my husband and told him to come home immediately.
...

The delivery driver was still parked down the street. When I approached him, he explained that he had noticed Hannah collecting packages almost as soon as he delivered them. Twice, he had watched her carry boxes toward the side of the house instead of bringing them inside. That morning, he had actually seen her place several flattened packages into our trash. He had tried warning us through the camera before, never realizing our microphone was broken.

We reviewed weeks of Ring footage that evening. The pattern was undeniable. Hannah had been taking deliveries, opening some, and hiding the packaging before we returned home. We ended her employment immediately and documented everything before contacting the appropriate authorities. What shook me most wasn’t the missing property. It was how completely normal everything had seemed. The person who finally noticed something was wrong wasn’t family, a neighbor, or even us. It was a delivery driver who cared enough to stop walking away.
