Trump Allies Turn Up Pressure on Abdul El-Sayed as Michigan Senate Battle Takes Shape
Republicans are increasing their focus on Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed as he faces former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat. National GOP groups have sought to define El-Sayed through his progressive positions on immigration, health care and federal spending, while his campaign has emphasized affordability, health costs and household finances. Reuters recently reported that Republican organizers are making El-Sayed a central target in their Michigan turnout strategy. Reuters
Recent polling shows a competitive race but does not establish a likely winner. A Fox News poll conducted September 24-28 found El-Sayed at 50% and Rogers at 49% among likely voters, within the survey’s ±3-point margin of error. A Marist poll conducted during roughly the same period showed El-Sayed leading 51%-44% among registered voters, while an earlier Washington Post-Schar School survey had him ahead 48%-45% among likely voters, also within that poll’s margin of error. Differences in samples and methodology help explain the variation. Fox News
