Imogen looked at Toby. “What did you mean by expensive?” Toby glanced at me before answering. Lawrence’s company was preparing a major downtown development, and the contractor selected for its most complicated phase was Brandt Construction. Lawrence had dealt almost entirely with project managers and assumed “Brandt” was just another corporate name. He had never bothered learning that I had founded the company fifteen years earlier with two coworkers and still owned the controlling interest.
