The Loan They Refused to Repay Ended Up Costing Them Far More
A mutual friend told me my sister and her husband were being sued over another unpaid debt. Apparently, I wasn’t the only person they had borrowed money from. Over the years, they had repeated the same story with several relatives and friends—urgent bills, promises to repay quickly, then excuses whenever anyone asked for their money back. This time, though, one lender had insisted on everything in writing.
The lawsuit exposed bank records showing that much of the money they borrowed hadn’t gone toward saving their home at all. There were expensive trips, renovations, and purchases made during the same period they were telling everyone they were barely surviving. Their credibility collapsed quickly, and the court eventually ordered repayment of that documented loan.
