The Open Marriage Ended the Moment Marcus Learned I Had Accepted His Rules

Marcus read the document twice, then looked at me as if I had committed some unimaginable betrayal. The temporary order did not hand me the house forever, but it gave Nora and me exclusive use while the divorce proceeded and prohibited Marcus from simply moving Kaylee into the property. Denise had also filed detailed records showing that company funds and marital accounts had paid for much of his month-long trip. Those expenses would now be reviewed as part of the financial settlement. Kaylee quietly picked up her suitcase and asked whether she should get a hotel.

Marcus pointed at Evan’s photograph. “So this is what you were doing while I was gone?”

I almost laughed. Nothing had happened between Evan and me. The photograph was there because I wanted Marcus to feel, for one minute, the uncertainty he had demanded I accept indefinitely. I took it down that evening. I did not need another man on my wall to justify leaving my husband.
