The Folder Revealed Why Preston Wanted Her Gone

Inside the folder were copies of bank transfers, renovation invoices, and the agreement Preston had signed when I invested money in his business.

My contribution had not been a gift.

It was a secured loan, backed by a legal interest in his house.

Walter explained that Gerald had insisted on protecting me before he died. The documents gave me the right to demand repayment if Preston sold the property, stopped honoring the agreement, or attempted to remove me from the home after using my money to improve it.

Preston had done exactly that.

My attorney sent formal notice the following morning.

Then the missing jewelry appeared at a luxury consignment store. Camille had sold the sapphire brooch and bracelet weeks earlier, using my identification to make the transaction look authorized. The store preserved its security footage and froze the proceeds.

Preston called seventeen times.

His messages changed from anger to apology once he understood that losing my financial support was the least of his problems. He needed to repay the loan or refinance the house without the equity my money had created.

I recovered the jewelry and moved into a quiet lakeside condominium near Walter’s building.

Preston believed forcing me into assisted living would free a storage room.

Instead, it exposed the debt beneath his house and the theft hidden inside his marriage.

He ordered me out believing I had nowhere to go.

He forgot that I had helped build everything he was standing inside.
