The Judge Exposed What My Son Had Done

Preston Gaines cleared his throat.

“Your Honor, my clients are simply concerned about Mrs. Ashcroft’s declining judgment.”

Judge Lang looked directly at him.

“Then why does the court file contain a loan application with a signature that appears inconsistent with Mrs. Ashcroft’s known handwriting?”

Marcus suddenly shifted in his chair.

I reached into my coat and placed a thin folder on the table.

“I believe this may answer that question.”

The judge opened it.

Inside were bank statements, security footage, copies of the forged loan documents, and records showing Marcus had transferred nearly $86,000 from my account.

Sabrina’s face went pale.

Marcus whispered, “Mom, you don’t understand.”

I looked at him.

“I understand everything.”

Judge Lang continued turning pages.

Then he stopped.

“And this document shows that Mrs. Ashcroft was locked out of her own residence?”

“Yes, Your Honor.”

The judge leaned back.

“Mr. Gaines, you asked this court to declare this woman financially incompetent while presenting evidence that her own son may have committed financial fraud against her.”

Nobody spoke.

Then Judge Lang looked at Marcus.

“Mr. Ashcroft, I have one question for you.”

Marcus swallowed.

“Why did you believe your mother would be too confused to notice what you were doing?”

The courtroom went completely silent.

I finally smiled.

Because that was the question I had been waiting for.
