Inside the envelope was a copy of the completed sale agreement, the solicitor’s notice revoking every authority Daniel believed he held, and a transcript of the voicemail he had accidentally left behind.
Beneath it was one handwritten page.
You called me a burden while planning your future around my home. I have removed both problems. The house is sold, and I will no longer depend on people who see me as an obstacle.
Daniel called before he finished reading.
He demanded my new address and insisted the conversation had been misunderstood. Melissa shouted in the background that they had spent money renovating their own flat because they expected to move into the house within months.
That admission confirmed everything.
My solicitor later explained that the private sale was complete and the proceeds—£875,000 minus fees—had been placed into accounts Daniel could neither access nor influence. I also replaced him as attorney and executor, appointing an independent professional instead.
He accused me of stealing his inheritance.
“You cannot steal something that was never yours,” I replied.
The new owners moved in the following week.
