The Delivery Boxes Exposed Paige’s Hidden Rental Scheme
The logo belonged to a luxury event company.
Inside the boxes were table linens, portable bars, lighting equipment, and branded decorations for a four-day corporate retreat. Paige had not invited forty-seven relatives for a reunion. She had rented my beach house to a private group and collected deposits while disguising the event as a family gathering.
The security officers photographed every vehicle, box, and licence plate. Then the property manager contacted the event company and explained that Paige had no authority to use or rent the house.
One of the company representatives immediately produced the contract.
Paige had signed my name.
She had also promised access to the pool, private dock, guest rooms, and neighbouring beach path. The deposits had already been transferred into her personal account.
I called my attorney and the sheriff’s office.
When Paige realised the police were coming, she stopped laughing. She began shouting that I had embarrassed her and ruined an important business opportunity. My mother begged me to let everyone inside “just this once” so the family would not lose money.
“The family did not lose money,” I said. “Paige took money for property she did not own.”
The relatives drove away. The event company pursued repayment, and Paige received a formal trespass notice while investigators reviewed the forged contract.
Milo watched the empty road through the monitor.
For years, my family had treated her as though she did not belong.
That weekend, I made certain the only people entering our home were the ones who respected that it belonged to us.
