The Concrete Company Turned Desmond’s Smirk Into Panic

The phone call was to the number printed across the concrete company’s truck. I explained that their crew was installing a barrier on property I owned and that I had never authorized the work. The manager asked for my address, then put me on hold. Less than five minutes later, one worker’s phone rang. Both men stopped immediately. Desmond saw them backing away from the fresh concrete and came rushing across my yard.
...

“Anything but this,” he said. Apparently, Desmond had told the company that he owned both properties and had hired them to install a permanent parking barrier. The manager had now ordered the crew to stop, photograph everything, and remove what they safely could before the concrete cured. He also wanted proof of ownership before completing another inch of work. I walked inside and returned with my deed while Desmond suddenly became very interested in explaining that this was merely a “neighbor disagreement.”

It became more expensive than an argument. I contacted the city and filed a police report documenting the unauthorized work. I also gave them photographs of the concrete placement and earlier pictures showing Desmond’s truck repeatedly blocking my driveway. I mentioned the slashed tires as background but made clear I had no evidence connecting him to that damage. The concrete company billed Desmond for the aborted job and cleanup instead of me.

Afterward, I installed cameras covering my driveway and sent Desmond written notice not to enter my property again.

He never blocked my car after that.

For months, he had insisted women shouldn’t drive.

All it took was one phone call to teach him something more useful:

women also know exactly who owns their driveway.
