The officers explained that Desmond had called from Reno claiming I had emptied his accounts, stolen his property, and illegally locked him out of his own home. I showed them the deed, the banking records, and the message where he announced he had “married” Priya while still legally married to me. I had not touched his personal accounts; I had only removed him as an authorized user from cards issued in my name. The officers made it clear they were not going to decide a marital-property dispute at my front door. Because Desmond had been living in the house, I also learned that changing the locks did not automatically erase whatever occupancy rights he might have.
