The man standing behind Preston was Aaron Bell, Nathan’s longtime accountant. I recognized him immediately because he had been sitting three rows behind my brother at Rachel’s funeral. Aaron looked exhausted. Then he placed a flash drive beside the folder and told me Rachel had contacted him six weeks earlier after tracing several transfers to companies connected to Nathan and Whitney. Aaron had originally assumed they were legitimate family transactions. When Rachel showed him altered authorizations bearing her electronic signature, he realized something was wrong.
