Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial Plunged Into Chaos as Holdout Juror Fight Reaches Massachusetts’ Highest Court
The closely watched murder trial of Lindsay Clancy has ended in a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict following seven days and more than 38 hours of deliberations. Judge William Sullivan formally declared the mistrial Friday after the panel repeatedly reported that it remained hopelessly deadlocked.
The dispute centered on an apparent 11-1 split. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued that a single juror was refusing to properly apply the court’s instructions concerning reasonable doubt and asked Sullivan to remove that juror. Prosecutors opposed the request, saying disagreement during deliberations did not establish bias or misconduct. Sullivan declined to remove the juror.
