The Contract Ended Vanessa’s Perfect Wedding

“Venue,” Tyler finished.

Vanessa turned toward me and immediately changed her tone.

She claimed the exclusion had been a misunderstanding. The photographs were not important. Of course I could attend. They would even place me near the front.

I looked at Tyler.

He had remained silent while she erased the woman who raised him. Now that the venue was at risk, he suddenly found his voice.

Paragraph five allowed me to release the date and recover most of the deposit because the final payment had not yet been made. I signed the cancellation form.

Marcus confirmed that the date would return to the public booking calendar by noon.

Vanessa began crying. Tyler asked where they were supposed to get married with only ten days remaining.

“I do not know,” I said. “I was not invited.”

They eventually held a small ceremony in a relative’s backyard. I mailed no check and paid for no honeymoon.

Months later, Tyler came to my house alone and apologized. He admitted he had allowed Vanessa to treat my love like a resource that would remain available no matter how they treated me.

“I raised you to be kind,” I told him. “Not merely grateful when kindness becomes expensive to lose.”

Vanessa wanted a wedding without me in the photographs.

She received exactly that.

She simply did not get the venue my name had purchased.
