A Mysterious Postcard Arrived Before My Family Returned—Then the Truth Came Out
My family had gone on a week-long vacation while I stayed behind to look after the house. Everything was quiet until the seventh day, when I found a postcard in the mailbox. It was signed with my mom’s name and said they had decided to extend their trip by two more days. I smiled, glad they had remembered to let me know, and didn’t think much more about it.
Two days later, they returned home exactly as the postcard had promised. As we unpacked the car, my parents apologized for staying longer than planned without being able to contact me. Confused, I reminded them that I had received their postcard explaining everything.
The expressions on their faces changed instantly.
My mom insisted they had never sent one.
At first, we thought she had simply forgotten, but she was certain. They hadn’t bought any postcards, hadn’t visited a post office, and hadn’t mailed anything during the trip. Curious, we looked at the card more closely. It had our correct address, but the postmark was so smudged that it was impossible to tell where it had been mailed.
Over the next few days, we asked relatives and friends if anyone had sent it as a joke, but everyone denied knowing anything about it. The mystery only deepened when we realized the handwriting looked surprisingly similar to my mother’s—but not identical enough to say for sure it was hers.
To this day, we still don’t know who sent the postcard or how they knew my family’s plans would change. It remains tucked away in a photo album, serving as a reminder that sometimes the most unforgettable mysteries aren’t dramatic at all. They’re the small, unexplained moments that quietly stay with you long after everyone else has stopped talking about them.
