At first glance, a tiny glass tube filled with miniature metal balls might look like a strange piece of hardware or a mysterious gadget. In reality, it’s a fishing rattle—a simple but effective tool designed to help anglers catch more fish.

Fishing rattles work by creating subtle clicking sounds and vibrations as a lure moves through the water. Predatory fish such as bass, pike, walleye, and catfish rely on a sensory system called the lateral line, which allows them to detect movement and vibrations even in murky water or low-light conditions.
