By the time Delphine landed back in North Carolina, Ambrose’s attorney had already filed the messages, returned cards, and records showing nearly two years of missed parenting time. Dad’s screenshot mattered too. It showed Delphine had not simply “lost contact” with her ex-husband. Our parents had helped her discourage communication while telling the rest of us Ambrose had abandoned his children.
The judge did not instantly hand Ambrose full custody or punish Delphine on the spot. Instead, the court ordered a formal review of the existing arrangement and temporarily restored the parenting time Ambrose had already been entitled to. Delphine was instructed not to interfere with calls or visits while the matter was pending. For the first time in years, the children could speak to their father without hiding phones or letters.
