My Husband Left Me for His Pregnant Mistress at My Birthday Dinner—The Next Morning, Three Investigators Arrived and Everything He’d Built Began Falling Apart Before My Eyes
Daniel tore open the envelope with shaking hands.
Inside was a temporary court order, a notice suspending his authority within the company, and a demand to surrender every business laptop, phone, and financial record immediately.
“This is ridiculous,” he snapped. “Emma, tell them this is a mistake.”
I calmly shook my head.
“It isn’t.”
One of the forensic accountants stepped forward.
“Our investigation found more than $640,000 in company funds diverted over three years.”
He placed several invoices on the porch.
Luxury vacations.
Designer jewelry.
Monthly rent for Olivia’s apartment.
Private medical expenses.
Every purchase had been disguised as legitimate business costs.
Olivia stared at the paperwork.
“You told me those bonuses were yours,” she whispered.
Daniel couldn’t answer.
The deputy sheriff then handed him another document.
“The company’s board voted unanimously to remove you as managing director effective this morning,” he said. “You’ll also be notified of any further legal proceedings.”
For the first time since I’d met him, Daniel looked genuinely frightened.
He reached toward me.
“Emma… we can fix this.”
I looked at the man I’d spent seventeen years trusting.
“You already decided what our marriage was worth,” I replied. “Now your business partners are deciding what your actions were worth.”
Olivia quietly picked up her purse.
Without another word, she walked past Daniel, got into her car, and drove away.
She never looked back.
Over the following months, the company recovered much of the missing money through asset sales and insurance. The divorce settlement was finalized without unnecessary drama because the financial records spoke louder than either of us ever could.
On the day I officially became the company’s new managing director, my assistant placed a small chocolate cake on my desk.
There were no speeches.
No cameras.
Just one candle.
I smiled as I blew it out.
The year my husband tried to ruin my birthday turned out to be the year I finally got my life back.
