The Envelope on Sebastian’s Chair Contained the Wedding He Would Now Have to Pay For Himself
Sebastian opened the envelope and found the engagement formally ended, followed by copies of every cancellation I had been legally entitled to make. The ballroom reservation was in my name. So were the hotel suites, transportation contract, rehearsal dinner, security arrangements, and several vendor deposits paid from my account. I had not taken anything that belonged to him; I had simply withdrawn my money and authorization from a wedding he had just reminded me was not guaranteed. The final page listed the remaining arrangements Sebastian had personally signed for—and the balances he would now have to cover himself. His face changed when he reached the total.
