Moving the sofa during an ordinary afternoon of cleaning led to an unsettling discovery. Deep inside one of the narrow fabric seams were several tiny brown insects along with clusters of small, pale oval objects.
Unsure what they were, I photographed them and contacted a pest professional. After examining the furniture, the technician confirmed they were bed bugs and their eggs.
Bed bugs are skilled at hiding in dark, protected spaces close to places where people rest. Mattress seams, bed frames, upholstered chairs, sofas, cracks, and crevices can provide ideal hiding spots. Their eggs are extremely small and whitish, making them easy to overlook during routine cleaning.
Professional treatment began quickly. The affected furniture and surrounding room were carefully inspected and treated, followed by additional checks to make sure no remaining bugs were overlooked.
The experience was an important reminder that early detection matters. A few insects hidden inside furniture can become a much larger problem if allowed to reproduce unnoticed.
If you discover insects or suspicious eggs around beds or upholstered furniture, avoid moving potentially infested items throughout the home. Photograph what you find and consider contacting a qualified pest-control professional for proper identification and treatment.
