The Recording Explained Why Julian Left

Julian’s voice was quiet.

“After the ambulance left, I heard Delphine talking to Sienna near the service hallway.”

Then he sent the recording.

Delphine was laughing.

Not nervously. Not from shock.

She said she had pushed me because she was tired of me “acting superior” and wanted one photograph of me looking ridiculous at her wedding.

Then Sienna asked the question that ended everything.

“What if she had actually drowned?”

Delphine answered, “She didn’t. Stop being dramatic.”

Julian had been standing around the corner.

He heard every word.

Then he told me something worse.

Elise had previously warned him that Delphine sometimes played cruel “jokes” and then blamed people for reacting badly. He had dismissed it as teenage tension.

Watching her laugh after I had been taken away changed that.

By morning, Julian had spoken with an attorney and arranged somewhere else for himself and Elise to stay.

The hotel preserved the security footage, witness statements, and the recording. I forwarded everything through the proper channels and stopped communicating directly with Delphine.

My parents called me vindictive.

I reminded them I had not ended Delphine’s marriage.

Julian had simply heard his new wife describe nearly drowning her sister as entertainment.

Weeks later, he filed for an annulment.

Delphine kept telling everyone it had been “just a joke.”

But the recording preserved the part she never expected anyone else to hear:

She knew exactly what she was doing.
