The Bank Had Been Waiting for Their Transfer

The bank manager explained that Edmund had placed a special alert on the account months earlier.

If the entire balance was ever transferred at once to an account connected to Vivian or Colton, the transaction was to be flagged for immediate review.

It had been.

The money had not disappeared.

It was temporarily frozen.

Then came the part Vivian had never expected.

The documents she convinced me to sign did not give her unrestricted authority. Edmund’s attorney had carefully limited what could be moved, and the transfer to Colton’s business appeared to exceed those limits.

By that afternoon, the bank had preserved every transaction record and referred the matter to its fraud department.

I called Edmund’s attorney next.

He reviewed the signatures, the documents Vivian had presented to me, and the messages she had sent afterward.

Then he quietly said, “Rosalind, do not contact them. Let the records speak.”

Two days later, Vivian called screaming.

Colton’s business account had been restricted while the transfer was investigated.

She demanded that I “fix it.”

I reminded her of her own words.

“The money is gone, remember?”

Silence.

Eventually, the disputed funds were returned while the legal issues were sorted out.

The real estate, investments, and trust Edmund had protected remained completely beyond their reach.

Vivian thought she had stolen my future.

Instead, she had activated the exact safeguard her father created to reveal who she had become.
