The Hidden Loan Exposed Glen’s Final Betrayal

The cosigner was Merle.

My father’s oldest friend had signed a false affidavit claiming Glen managed the farm and had authority to borrow against it. The lender relied on that statement when approving the loan.

That was why Merle had urged me to let the sale go.

He was not avoiding conflict.

He was protecting himself.

Sam filed an immediate title objection and notified the lender that Glen had pledged property he did not own. The bank froze the loan account, while the developer canceled the closing and demanded its deposit back.

Then Sam showed me the final working-heir clause.

Anyone who attempted to sell, mortgage, or encumber the farm without my written approval forfeited every remaining interest connected to the land.

Glen’s claim disappeared the moment the unauthorized lien was recorded.

The lender pursued him and Merle personally rather than the farm. Glen had already spent most of the money on debts and a new vehicle, leaving him responsible for repayment without the sale he expected to cover it.

He called me heartless.

“You borrowed against my home while I buried my husband,” I replied. “You decided what family meant.”

The lien was removed after the investigation confirmed my ownership and the forged authority.

By spring, the orange survey flags were gone.

I stood beside Erik’s old truck and watched corn rise across the same fields my father had protected.

Glen believed grief made me absent.

The county records proved I had never stopped being the owner.
