Seven Things House Cleaners Usually Won’t Clean Unless Requested

Hiring a house cleaner can save hours of work, but many people are surprised to learn that a standard cleaning visit does not include every task in the home. Services vary, so it is important to confirm what is covered before the cleaner arrives.

Most cleaners will not handle hazardous materials, including blood, animal waste, mould, chemicals, or heavy pest infestations. These situations may require specialised equipment and professional remediation.

They may also avoid high or dangerous areas, such as exterior windows, rooftops, tall light fixtures, or anything requiring an unstable ladder. Safety rules often limit how high a cleaner can reach.

Standard service usually excludes deep appliance cleaning. The inside of ovens, refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers often costs extra and must be requested in advance.

Many cleaners will not wash large amounts of dishes, organise cluttered rooms, move heavy furniture, or lift fragile electronics. They generally clean accessible surfaces rather than reorganising personal belongings.

Outdoor work, garages, unfinished basements, and heavily stained carpets may also fall outside an ordinary appointment. Carpet extraction usually requires separate equipment.

Finally, cleaners may refuse to handle valuable jewellery, important papers, medication, weapons, or extremely delicate objects because of the risk of damage or misunderstanding.

Before booking, ask for a written checklist and mention any special jobs. Clear expectations prevent disappointment and allow the company to bring the correct supplies, schedule enough time, and provide an accurate price.
