At Gwendolyn’s house, a notary was already waiting beside the dining table.
Ryan claimed the documents were routine protections for our baby. In reality, they transferred my apartment into a trust controlled by him and granted Gwendolyn authority to manage the property if pregnancy complications made me “temporarily incapable.”
Valerie was listed as the trust’s secondary beneficiary.
They had not expected Paige to arrive behind me.
She placed copies of the mistaken transfer, Valerie’s messages, and the original deed on the table. Then she informed Ryan that my accounts were secured, the property carried a fraud alert, and every document presented that afternoon had been photographed.
Gwendolyn accused me of destroying the family over a misunderstanding.
“Our baby,” I said, pointing to Ryan’s transfer note. “Which baby did you mean?”
Ryan finally admitted Valerie was pregnant, but insisted he had planned to support both children while remaining married to me.
He believed confession would make the fraud seem less important.
It did not.
I left with Paige and filed for divorce. The attempted property transfer became part of the financial investigation, while Ryan’s company records revealed that several supposed business expenses had funded Valerie’s pregnancy and baby shower.
The $4,200 remained in my account until my attorney instructed me to return it through a documented transfer.
