The Camera Footage Ended Sabrina’s Last Excuse
By dinner, I placed three things on the kitchen table. The first was an emergency restoration receipt from a bridal specialist who had agreed to work through the night trying to save Delphine’s dress. The second was confirmation for a hotel suite where Delphine and I would stay until the wedding. The third was a video clip from my parents’ backyard security camera.
Sabrina stopped smiling before the footage even finished. The camera showed her carrying the garment bag outside, unzipping it deliberately, pulling part of the dress free, and laughing toward two cousins before pushing it into the pool. There had been no accidental zipper and no harmless toss. When Mom started saying Sabrina had only gotten carried away, I paused the recording on the moment Sabrina looked directly at Delphine before letting go.
Then I told them Sabrina was no longer invited to the ceremony. Anyone who thought Delphine should accept the humiliation as a joke was free to stay home with her. Dad called that dramatic.
“No,” I said. “Dramatic was destroying something connected to her dead mother for entertainment.”
The dress was ultimately restored well enough for Delphine to wear.
Five days later, when she walked toward me down the aisle, the lace still carried one tiny repaired mark.
She called it proof that damaged did not mean ruined.
