The unfamiliar object is a button hook and zipper pull, an adaptive dressing aid made by Vive. It is designed to help people fasten clothing independently when arthritis, tremors, weak grip strength, an injury, or limited finger movement makes small buttons and zipper tabs difficult to handle.
The larger wire loop is used for buttons. It passes through the buttonhole and slips around the button. The user then pulls the tool back through the opening, guiding the button neatly into place without needing to pinch it between their fingers.
At the opposite end is a smaller metal hook. This catches the opening in a zipper tab, making it easier to pull zippers on trousers, dresses, jackets, and coats. Its wide, textured handle provides a more secure and comfortable grip than the clothing fastener itself. The tool can also be operated with one hand.
