White vinegar is often recommended as a simple way to revive towels that have become stiff, rough, or less absorbent. Its mild acidity may help loosen detergent and mineral residue trapped between the fibres—the buildup that can make freshly washed towels feel surprisingly hard.
For an occasional refresh, wash the towels according to their care labels and add a small amount of plain white vinegar during the rinse cycle. Use the machine’s fabric-softener dispenser only if its manual allows vinegar there. Avoid pouring vinegar directly onto fabrics, and never combine it with chlorine bleach because the mixture can release dangerous fumes.
