Grandma’s Evidence Brought Their Entire Scheme Down
Mr. Stroud had already copied every letter, forged document, returned receipt, and recorded land agreement.
The notary filed a formal complaint over the stolen seal. The solar company demanded repayment of the $18,000 Dale had accepted, then referred the matter to investigators after learning he had falsely claimed ownership of the land.
Mom continued insisting she had only been protecting me from responsibilities I was too young to understand.
But the evidence showed something else.
She had intercepted legal notices, hidden Grandma’s trust, returned years of letters, entered the farmhouse without permission, and supported a forged transfer after I refused to surrender the property voluntarily.
Aunt Judith handed the shoebox back to me.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I defended the wrong person.”
Dale was charged in connection with the false land agreement and forged assignment. Mom became part of the investigation after handwriting comparisons linked her to the returned letters and other documents.
The solar deal collapsed.
The land remained mine.
With help from Bess and Mr. Stroud, I repaired the farmhouse, leased part of the pasture to a local rancher, and used the income to care for my daughter while completing nursing school.
Months later, Mom sent a message saying family should forgive.
I looked at Grandma’s final letter.
She had protected me long before I knew I needed protection.
My mother threw me out with a newborn and two trash bags.
Grandma had already left us a home.
