The video showed Daniel and Linda spreading documents across the coffee table after I left for work. Linda opened the folder she later handed me and pointed to several places marked with yellow tabs.
They were not routine closing papers.
They would transfer my share of the house into a trust controlled by Linda while leaving me responsible for part of the mortgage. Daniel planned to tell me the documents corrected an error in the title.
Then Linda said the sentence that ended my marriage.
“Once Rachel signs, the house stays with us after the divorce.”
The previous owner copied the footage onto a drive and wrote a statement explaining how the camera had remained connected. I sent everything to an attorney before returning home.
That evening, Linda placed the folder beside my dinner plate and suggested we sign it immediately. I pretended to read the first page while Daniel watched me closely.
Then the doorbell rang.
My attorney stood outside with formal notice that no transfer had been authorised. The lender had frozen all title changes, and the closing company had opened an investigation after learning that Daniel submitted altered financial records during the purchase.
The deposit had come from money my father left me. Daniel had tried to hide that fact so he could claim the house later.
He called the recording a misunderstanding.
But the camera had captured every word of the plan.
