The Birthday Dinner Exposed Gavin’s Replacement Plan
The restaurant manager arrived, and I asked him to confirm who had paid the deposit for the private table, cake, wine, and jewellery package.
Every charge had been placed on a card connected to my personal account.
Gavin had used money from the consulting company I owned before our marriage, then told Daphne he had purchased a new home where they could rebuild their family. In reality, the house had come from my father’s estate and remained solely in my name.
The red-ribbon key was an old copy that no longer worked.
Three weeks earlier, my accountant had discovered unexplained transfers, hotel charges, and payments to a removal company. Gavin had arranged for my belongings to be placed in storage after my birthday while he told relatives I had chosen to leave.
I had already changed the locks.
I placed a folder on the table containing account statements, property records, and divorce papers. Gavin stared at the first page while Daphne slowly moved her chair away from him.
He admitted he had lied to both of us.
Chloe began crying when she realised the “family reunion” had been built on deception. Daphne removed the necklace from the velvet box and left it beside the cake.
I paid only for my own dinner and asked the manager to place everything else on Gavin’s card.
He had postponed my birthday because he believed he was beginning a new life without me.
Instead, he spent the evening learning that the home, money, and future he had promised away had never belonged to him.
