Rather than shouting or confronting them, Marissa calmly gathered their clothes, phones, keys, and personal belongings from around the pool. She then walked to the home’s security panel and pressed the emergency alarm. Within seconds, a loud siren echoed throughout the subdivision, drawing neighbors to their windows and front yards. Security was automatically notified, the community alert system posted the emergency, and the affair instantly became impossible to hide.
As Caleb begged her to stop, Marissa dropped the key fob to his expensive new truck into the deepest part of the pool, reminding him that his choices had already sunk far more than a set of keys. Then another vehicle pulled up outside.
Vanessa’s husband stepped out of a black SUV just as the alarm continued to blare. Seeing the growing crowd of curious neighbors, both Caleb and Vanessa realized there was no explanation that could undo what had already been witnessed. Marissa never raised her voice.
