The call I made was to the resort desk. I separated my reservation from Grant’s, canceled the refundable activities I had booked for him, and moved the kids and myself to a smaller family resort in Sedona. Then I called the airline and changed only our return flights. I wasn’t trying to strand him. Grant still had his rental car, his original flight, and three adult friends nearby. I simply stopped arranging his vacation while he abandoned ours.
