The video began with Brooke entering the auditorium before the doors officially opened.
She removed my reservation card, tore it in half, and instructed the usher to say every seat near the stage had already been assigned. Then the screen displayed her messages to a friend.
I’m putting Diane where she belongs—out of every important picture.
A second message followed.
Once Nathan sees us in the front row, he’ll understand who his real family is.
The auditorium erupted in shocked whispers.
Brooke stood abruptly and claimed the footage had been taken out of context. Nathan calmly played the final clip: Brooke telling the usher that Steven was a major donor and could cause trouble for the school if anyone challenged her.
Principal Delgado stepped onto the stage and asked Brooke to surrender the seat immediately.
She refused until two security officers approached.
Nathan waited while I walked from beneath the EXIT sign to the second row. The crowd began applauding, but he raised one hand.
“Please wait,” he said. “My mother has spent eighteen years being asked to accept whatever place other people left for her.”
When I reached the reserved chair, Nathan smiled.
“Today, she sits where I chose.”
Only then did the auditorium rise.
Steven tried to apologize after the ceremony, saying he had not known what Brooke planned.
“You watched her do it,” Nathan replied. “Not stopping cruelty is still choosing a side.”
Brooke wanted one photograph proving she had replaced me.
Instead, six hundred people witnessed the moment my son made it clear that I had never been replaceable.
