The Forged Signature Put Roy Under Investigation

The forged signature was Mama’s.

Roy had used an old power-of-attorney document that expired years earlier, copied her signature onto a new loan application, and claimed he was authorized to borrow against the house for “essential repairs.”

The money never paid for repairs.

Bank records showed it went toward Roy’s business debts and a new truck.

Priya immediately filed a title dispute and notified the lender that Mama had lacked neither capacity nor ownership authority when the loan was created—and that Roy had no right to pledge property already held jointly with me.

The lender froze the remaining funds and began a fraud review. The lien was suspended while handwriting experts and notary records were examined.

Then the sheriff restored my access.

Roy stood on the porch insisting the loan was a family matter and that involving investigators would destroy him.

“You forged our mother’s name while she was dying,” I said. “You made that decision.”

The lender eventually removed the lien from my property and pursued Roy personally for the money. His truck was repossessed, and the forged documents were referred to authorities.

Uncle Ray apologized for telling me to surrender the house.

I changed every lock and kept Mama’s old key in the drawer beside the telephone.

Roy believed my career meant I had abandoned the family.

The recorded deed—and twenty-seven years of showing up—proved Mama knew exactly which child had never truly left.
