The recording continued.
Sydney laughed about slicing the bodice while Diane instructed her to make the damage look accidental. Then Diane’s voice came through clearly:
“Connor will make her continue. He always chooses peace over her.”
Connor stared at his mother.
“You knew I would ignore it?”
Diane tried to call the recording incomplete, but my apartment camera had also captured both women entering the bedroom with scissors and leaving minutes later without them.
My father had already contacted building security and preserved the footage.
Connor turned toward me and promised he had known nothing about the sabotage. I believed him.
That was precisely why I could not marry him.
He had spent our engagement teaching his family that they could mistreat me without consequences because he would always ask me to remain quiet.
Diane and Sydney were removed from the courthouse after they began shouting. I filed a police report for the destroyed dress and submitted the recording, video, photographs, and purchase receipt.
Connor followed me outside.
He begged for another chance and said he would finally set boundaries.
“You had years to choose me,” I replied. “You only found your courage after everyone saw the truth.”
The black dress had been intended for my honeymoon.
Instead, I wore it while ending the future they believed I was too frightened to abandon.
They destroyed my wedding gown to make me look foolish.
All they accomplished was exposing themselves before I signed the marriage license.
