Dominic’s mother began crying so loudly that everyone at the table could hear her through the phone.
The police had arrived at her home with a recovery agent and documents proving the Camry had never legally belonged to Dominic. My father’s message had gone to the attorney who handled the purchase, along with instructions to report the vehicle as unlawfully transferred.
Dominic insisted it was a family misunderstanding.
Then his mother admitted he had forged my signature on a bill of sale and told her I had willingly given up the car.
My father placed a folder on the table.
Inside were copies of the registration, insurance records, and financial statements showing that Dominic had also used my credit cards to cover his mother’s expenses. He had been warned privately weeks earlier to repay the money and return anything taken from me.
He had ignored every warning.
That evening, the Camry was secured and returned to my father’s property until I could collect it. Dominic’s access to the family business accounts was revoked, and the attorney advised me to freeze my credit immediately.
I did more than that.
I filed for divorce, reported the forged document, and submitted every record I had saved.
Dominic believed dinner had given him an audience for my humiliation.
Instead, it gave my father witnesses.
By the time dessert was cleared, my husband had lost the car, his financial access, and the silence that had protected him.
