The Bank Manager Revealed What Preston Had Hidden

Diane stepped onto the porch carrying a sealed folder.

Preston immediately began explaining that the cancellations had caused “temporary complications.” Camille demanded that I restore the mortgage and school payments before their accounts were damaged.

Diane interrupted them.

The business line among the 168 payments had been opened using my guarantee. Preston had quietly borrowed against it for renovations, club expenses, and investments he had never disclosed. If I continued funding everything, I would remain responsible for debts approaching £140,000.

Preston looked at the ground.

Camille had known.

They had excluded me from dinner because her parents were attending, and she did not want them discovering that their lifestyle depended on a seventy-nine-year-old widow.

I signed the final revocation documents at my kitchen table.

Essential support for my granddaughter’s education would continue through a separate account paid directly to the school. Everything else—mortgage, vehicles, utilities, memberships, and business debts—became Preston and Camille’s responsibility.

My son accused me of destroying his family.

“No,” I replied. “I stopped financing the version of it that had no place for me.”

Diane witnessed every signature and left with the folder.

Preston and Camille remained on the porch, waiting for me to change my mind.

I closed the door gently.

They had told me I was not invited to their table.

By dawn, they discovered how much of that table I had been paying for.
