Judd told People that she was “in shock” when she heard the claim because, according to her, the two friends have never discussed her political beliefs. Judd instead described herself as an independent and said O’Donnell’s characterization was based entirely on assumption. People.com

O’Donnell made the original comments during an August podcast appearance, saying Judd was the only Trump supporter in her personal life with whom she maintained a close friendship. She emphasized that she generally avoids discussing politics and did not want the disagreement to become another public feud. Rather than responding angrily, she said she was confused about where O’Donnell had gotten the impression. People.com

After Judd’s response became public, O’Donnell explained that she had assumed Judd supported Trump because the singer had performed at Mar-a-Lago in 2023. O’Donnell then acknowledged that assumption might have been incorrect and apologized. EW.com

The exchange comes as Judd promotes The Hard Truth, her first album of new material in more than a decade. The singer has said she would rather focus on her music and maintaining personal relationships than allow assumptions about political affiliation to create unnecessary conflict.

Country music star Wynonna Judd is correcting the record after longtime friend Rosie O’Donnell publicly described her as a supporter of President Donald Trump.
