Delphine started explaining that she had only wanted \u201ca few pictures of the new couple,\u201d but Rowan stopped her. \u201cThen you ask for couple pictures. You don\u2019t tell my five-year-old daughter she isn\u2019t important anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The photographer was still there. Rowan walked across the room, lifted Juniper into his arms, and asked for the family photographs to be taken again. This time, Juniper stood directly beside him. He also asked for one photograph with Vivienne\u2019s small framed picture included\u2014not to erase his new marriage, but to make clear that his daughter\u2019s mother would never become something everyone was expected to pretend had not existed.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Rowan thanked me for speaking up and admitted he had missed signs he should have noticed earlier.
