Nevertheless, it quickly spread online and drew criticism from Republican politicians including Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Wesley Hunt, who argued that the exchange was inappropriate given the solemn setting.<\/p>\n<p>However, Michael Ragusa, who was standing nearby during the ceremony, disputed the interpretation circulating online. Ragusa said the camera had simply captured Ocasio-Cortez greeting Mamdani and noted that politicians from both parties could be seen smiling or talking at different points during the lengthy ceremony. Mamdani was also photographed and filmed appearing somber during other portions of the memorial. Exactly what the two said during the brief exchange remains unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s comments have ensured that the few seconds of footage will remain part of a larger political argument over the ceremony.
