Apparently, minutes after I refused to give her my Wi-Fi password, several people at the party lost access to their phones and one guest noticed someone trying to connect to different nearby networks. Then another guest realized his laptop had suddenly shown a security warning. One of them admitted he had brought a small device that automatically searched for nearby wireless networks because he wanted \u201cbetter internet\u201d for streaming music. He insisted he wasn\u2019t trying to steal anything, but my neighbor finally understood why I had refused to hand out my password to a house full of strangers. Giving someone access to your home Wi-Fi can potentially give them access to devices on the same network if your setup isn\u2019t properly secured.<\/p>\n<p>She apologized the next morning and admitted she had assumed I was simply being difficult.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t angry anymore.
